When starting your design phase, ask yourself this question: How will the label be used?
Label Dimensions and tooling
- Width
- Length
- Corner radius

Repeat Length
There are 2 ways to run this label: With the mandatory liner width of 3.125″, or the mandatory width of 1.125″ running across the web. Typically 1/16″ is left on each side of the cavity.

Label Die Close-Up
An example of a die is shown below.
Label production is more efficient when there are more cavities across the die.
Please note: The specifications for the gap between labels are made when the die is ordered. No adjustments can be made to the label once the die is ordered unless a new die is manufactured.

Label Sizing FAQs
How do you measure a label?
To measure a label, you need two key dimensions: the width (left to right) and the height (top to bottom) when looking at the label in its applied position. If the label wraps around a container, you may also need the diameter or circumference of the surface to ensure proper fit.

What is the standard way to label dimensions?
Label dimensions are typically listed as width x height. For example, a label that is 3 inches wide and 2 inches tall would be written as 3″ x 2″. Always check if your supplier lists dimensions in a different order.
How do you label the diameter of a label?
If your label is meant to wrap around a cylindrical object, the diameter of the container is an important measurement. To calculate the label’s required width, multiply the diameter by π (3.14) to get the circumference, then subtract a small gap if needed for spacing.
What size label do I need?
The right label size depends on your container shape, available surface area, and how much information needs to be displayed. Use our Label Dimensions Tooling guide to help determine the best fit.
What does ‘label sizing’ mean?
Label sizing refers to selecting or customizing a label’s width, height, and shape to suit the application. Accurate sizing ensures your labels fit well and look professional on the product.
