UNDER THE HOOD/POWERTRAIN

The Challenges... The Solutions... The Results.

New challenges foster invention-targeted thinking. WLC's recognized ability to create a competitive edge for its customers is demonstrated in our Success Profiles. There is never a standard solution, and these profiles demonstrate our ongoing commitment to application leadership and full-service innovation. Our significant growth in Automotive Labeling has been driven by one guiding principle: Complete Dedication to Customer Satisfaction.

THE CHALLENGE
ELIMINATE WASTE
Rework a process that uses 80 different pre-printed labels to comply with Emission Labeling standards.

THE SOLUTION
RESET CORPORATE PRACTICE
Consolidate label formats and streamline application process at 40 OEM assembly plants. Print platform-specific labels on-demand, using a universal base stock embedded with security features.

THE RESULTS
INCREASED QUALITY OF EMISSION LABELING PROCESS

  • Eliminated 80 part numbers on a corporate-wide basis
  • Eliminated retooling costs and tooling maintenance
  • Eliminated extensive archive maintenance and artwork revision costs
  • Eliminated changeover time and inventory obsolescence

THE CHALLENGE
MEET FEDERAL DIRECTIVES
Warning/Instruction Guide on emission control system.

THE SOLUTION
COMMERCIALIZE INTEGRATED TETHER/LABEL CONCEPT
Use proprietary extension of flexographic process to develop functional hybrid label. Produce tether for a valve cap which prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system.
Print warning & instruction information on tether.

THE RESULTS
SAFER, MORE SECURE DUAL-PURPOSE HYBRID LABEL
As a safety component, valve cap cannot be lost or removed during maintenance. It is permanently secured (via tether) to valve stem.
To communicate reference EVAP test instructions:
Tier 1 supplier can assure integrity of emission control system and simultaneously address mandate for warning and instruction.
