The Whitlam Label Company Quality Lab is continuing to acquire new equipment and take strides to offer our customers new and exciting products and services.

Our Quality Lab uses the following equipment to inspect incoming material and to perform tests on converted labels to ensure quality:

Printed Label Abrasion Testing

Tests the ability of the label to resist varying degrees of rubbing and remain legible.

  • Tests the durability of the printed ink system on various labels.
  • Tests the durability of various varnishes and laminates applied to different labels.

Printed Label Barcode Verification Testing

Tests the quality and readability of printed barcodes.

  • Verifies that printed barcodes are scanning properly.
  • Assigns an ANSI grade based on the level of readability.
  • Barcodes receiving a grade of "C" or lower are rejected for most labels distributed to customers.

Printed Label Heat Aging/ Resistance Testing

This tests the ability of the label to endure a period of time while subjected to a high temperature.

  • Used to perform heat aging tests at extreme temperatures.

Printed Label Thermal Cycle (Oven, Freezer, or Humidity) Testing

This tests the ability of the label to stand up to various environmental conditions in a cyclical format.

  • Used to perform heat aging tests at extreme temperatures.
  • Maximum temperature reaching 1000° Celsius.
  • Used for humidity and environmental testing.

Printed Label Peel Strength Testing

Tests the amount of force required to remove a label from a wide variety of surfaces.

  • Used to perform peel adhesion testing.
  • Perform 180° peel tests, loop tack peel tests, tensile strength testing.

Printed Label Tape Test

Tests the ink adhesion to any given label material.

Printed Label Thermal Transfer Ribbon Testing

The thermal transfer ribbon tests the adhesion of the label to resist the effects of a wide variety of chemicals.

Printed Label Fluid Immersion Testing

This tests the ability of the label to resist the effects of a wide variety of chemicals.

Printed Label Color Book Testing

We use a color book to ensure that we match the exact colors you specified. This book references spot colors.

Printed Label Macbeth Lightbooth Testing

The light booth is used to verify and match printed colors with color standards.
